BHUBANESWAR: After setting a record by running
65 km at a stretch from Puri to here exactly a yuear
ago, Orissa's wonder child Budhia Singh is aiming to
achieve another feat by undertaking a long distance 'padayatra'.
"This time the boy will wolk from Bhubaneswar to
Kolkata, a distance of nearly 500 km, in six days to
create awarness about sports," said Budhia's coach
Biranchi Das.
"Though the date of Budhia's walk is yet to be finalised,
we plan to organise it either in the last week of or the
first week of june."
Das said Budhia's walking schedule would mostly depend
on the climate. "The boy will undertake the padayatra in
the last week of this month if the temperature remains
within 32 degrees Celsius along the orissa coast."
Budhia will not be allowed to walk in scorching heat, he
said.
Sources said the idea of making the six year old walk a
long distance came after the Orissa government objected
to his long distance running.
Budhia has not undertaken any long distance run after
the state government field a petition in the high Court
seeking a ban on running by the child. The court is yet
to give its verdict in this matter.
Budhia, now enjoying his summer vacation after his Buxi
Jagabandhu English Medium
(BJEM) school here began its holiday on April 30, is
reportedly unhappy and disappointed at being unable to
participate in major marathons or sports activities for
the past year.
"I can easily walk to Kolkata.Have you not seen me
running 65 km distance last year?" Budhia asked this
cirrespondent while practising inside the Orissa Judo
Assosiation premises here on Friday. |
